May has been a very busy month for me and unfortunately I haven't had much time to post on the blog. So here is a brief summary and photo dump! I have managed to get out to most of the usual spots for migration this year.
Rondeau Provincial Park
|Eastern Fox Snake|
Long Point Provincial Park
My dad and I made it out to Amherst Island again for our 5th annual big morning. As usual we caught the first ferry from the mainland (630pm) and returned on the 1pm. We managed to tie our record from last year (108 species) but were held back by low numbers of passerine migrants. We did pretty good for shorebirds at the KFN property which partially made up for it. Not really any standout birds this time! Our strategy next year is going to be to take more time at each site as I think we rushed a bit too much and ended up doubling back to do some clean-up.
I had a great time on Pelee Island with the family for the long weekend in May. The birding was a bit slow because of the weather, but I still enjoyed every minute of it!
